La fecha fue elegida como conmemoración del brutal asesinato en 1960 de las tres hermanas Mirabal, activistas políticas de la República Dominicana, por orden del gobernante dominicano Rafael Trujillo.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><o:p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">La violencia contra la mujer adopta formas diversas: violencia en el hogar, trata de mujeres y niñas, violencia en situaciones de conflicto armado, como asesinatos; esclavitud sexual, violencia psicológica, entre muchas otras.</span></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><o:p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Sin embargo, la violencia inicia en el hogar, la cual se presenta de distintas formas y lo grave es que tiene consecuencias psicológicas, si no son tratadas, para toda la vida. Algunas formas de violencia dentro del hogar son: maltrato físico, verbal, económico y psicológico.</span></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><o:p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">La violencia atenta en contra de la dignidad de sus víctimas, contra sus derechos humanos y obstaculiza la plena realización de la persona. Crea baja autoestima, vulnerabilidad y sensación de desamparo, además de causar daños a la salud.
